Jodi Liston

FOUNDER

Meet Jodi Liston, the visionary force behind Liston Education Group. With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, and as a mother to three children with a vast range of gifts and needs, Jodi brings a wealth of experience and a deeply personal connection to her work.

Rooted in her own journey, Jodi’s mission is a testament to the transformative power of empathy, expertise, and unwavering commitment.

Jodi deeply understands both the hopes and struggles of the families she works with, having traveled both the therapeutic and traditional education pathways with her own children. First as a young single mother of two children with complex mental health and learning challenges, Jodi set out to secure the best resources she could find. Seeking solutions with little guidance, Jodi found and fought for assistance that included hospitalizations, educational advocacy, therapeutic schools, and residential treatment.

Years later, her third child followed a more traditional path, becoming a scholar-athlete. Jodi helped him nurture and navigate a journey that included attending private boarding school and being recruited by college as a Division One athlete, where he is now pursuing his career goals.

Parenting children that required such different kinds of support, expertise, and resources lay the foundation for Jodi’s agile approach to consulting. Recognizing that an individual’s needs change over time, and that families often need more than one type of guidance, Jodi built a unique practice that includes multiple experts who work both individually with clients and collaboratively as a team. The tenacity, resilience, and strength that supported each of Jodi’s children on their own unique journeys are what her entire team brings to every family they work with.

Jodi’s own expertise was initially developed by assisting a special education attorney. In order to learn the system when her children needed services, Jodi worked for free, doing case law research, attending meetings, performing parent intake sessions, and helping set up mediation. As her own children’s needs grew more complex, Jodi uncovered resources and information that, over time, enabled her to secure over $5 million in services. When she realized other families needed these resources but didn’t know they existed or how to access them, she transitioned out of legal services to become an educational consultant and non-attorney advocate.

Jodi developed a private practice while creating the Advocacy Empowerment Program, designed to help parents discover what they were entitled to and learn how to navigate the system to get what they needed. Having become a leader in her field, Jodi was invited to join her mentor Myrna Harris as part of a team of educational consultants. They worked together in partnership at HarrisKramer & Liston until Myrna’s retirement, at which point Jodi took the helm and evolved the firm to include both traditional educational and therapeutic consulting to meet the diverse needs of their clients.

Jodi’s warmth, compassion, strategic thinking, and tenacity resonate both with the families that work with Liston Education, and the program leaders and staff, admissions officers, and industry professionals who trust Jodi and her team. Jodi’s strong relationships are a testament to her authenticity and commitment, and are at the heart of Liston Education’s ability to find the right solutions for every family.

Jodi's professional affiliations, including NATSAP, IECA, TCA, TABS, SBSA, and COPAA, underscore her dedication to excellence and innovation.

Outside of work, Jodi enjoys spending time with her husband Andrew and a circle of friends and family. Boating on the Hudson River is more than a pastime; it's a source of connection and renewal. Andrew and Jodi enjoy endless snuggles at home with their three teacup schnauzers, CoCo Bean, Chloe, Cali, and their French bulldog, Jacques.
